In the city to perform at Government Medical College and promote his latest album Judah, Falak Shabir — the young singing sensation from Pakistan — talks about his musical journey. The 28-year-old singer-composer-lyricist of Ijazat fame, also known for hit numbers such as Mera mann from Nautanki Saala and Judai from I love NY, Shabir is all set to entertain the audience with 10 new songs that he has sung for Bollywood films this year. The Lahore-based singer says he loves being in India and that arts bind the two countries together.
“There’s lot of respect and warmth for Pakistani artistes here, and vice-versa,” says Shabir, adding that due to the absence of large-scale cinema industry in Pakistan, there is a dearth of opportunities for artistes there. Inspired by Abida Parveen, Shabir says words and music come to him naturally. He adds that he believes in spreading meaningful lyrics and good music so that “it gives the younger generation evergreen and soulful entertainment in the world of disposable music”.
