Month after car mishap,Councillor Laxmi Devi succumbs

BJP councillor from ward 7 Laxmi Devi passed away today.

BJP councillor from ward 7 Laxmi Devi passed away today. She was 55 and is survived by her husband,a daughter and three sons. She had been admitted to PGI since April 1 after a car accident. The cremation took place at the Maloya cremation ground.

Laxmi Devi,a housewife,had contested the elections for the first time after ward 7 was reserved for women. Her husband had served as the sarpanch of Maloya before the village was transferred to the Municipal Corporation. Ward 7 comprises of Maloya,EWS Colony,West of Sector 39 and the Grain Market.

The accident took place on April 1 when Laxmi Devi,along with three other women,was traveling in a car when it was hit by another car. While the other women received minor injuries,Laxmi Devi suffered serious head injuries. She was admitted to PGI and was unconscious since then.

Her body was handed over to her family after the post mortem was conducted. A large number of people attended the cremation. Apart from leaders of different parties and residents of the ward,sarpanches from different villages too were present.

Her body was draped in the BJP flag before she was cremated. Condoling her death,BJP leaders expressed the hope that the family would have the strength to bear the loss. Mayor Raj Bala Malik expressed grief at Laxmi Devi’s demise.
