Monsoon enters Punjab, IMD sounds yellow alert in 11 districts amid heavy rainfall

Pathankot and Gurdaspur are expected to see heavy rainfall from June 28 to July 1, while Jalandhar will experience heavy rain from June 29 to July 1. Light rain is forecasted in isolated places across the remaining nine districts of the state in the coming days.

Moderate to heavy rain is expected in Punjab’s Doaba and East Malwa regions from Thursday until June 30, with the Majha region likely to see similar conditions on June 29 and 30, the IMD said. In West Malwa, light to moderate rain is expected from Thursday until June 30 in isolated places.

Adverse weather conditions persist across all districts of Punjab, with rain in Muktsar, Ludhiana, and Nawanshahr causing localised flooding. Chandigarh received 5 mm of rain, Ludhiana 9.6 mm, Patiala 3.3 mm, Pathankot 0.8 mm, Gurdaspur 7.9 mm, Barnala 4 mm, and Rupnagar 3 mm of rain from Wednesday morning to Thursday.

Yellow alert in Haryana

The weather department has also issued a yellow alert for rain in Haryana, with showers expected to commence Friday. Heavy rain is predicted in many parts of Haryana on June 29 and 30, with an orange alert issued for Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal, Faridabad, Sonipat and Panipat on June 29 and 30, and for Mahendragarh and Rewari on June 30.

Over the past 24 hours, several locations have already received rainfall, including Ambala (0.4 mm), Hisar (0.8 mm), Karnal (1 mm), Bhiwani (11.5 mm), Gurugram (7.5 mm), Jind (16 mm), Panipat (0.5 mm), Rewari (34.5 mm), and Sonipat (5.5 mm).
