Politics over the move to dislodge the Congress-led group from Mohali Municipal Council (MC) took another ugly turn on Tuesday when MC senior vice-president Harman Preet Singh Prince, who belongs to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD),alleged threat to his and his familys life from MC president Rajinder Singh Rana of the Congress and local Congress MLA Balbir Sidhu. However,Rana and Sidhu categorically refuted the charges.
Talking to Newsline,Prince alleged that around 6 pm on Tuesday, three vehicles stopped outside his residence in Phase 3B1 and a man started pasting some papers on the gate while another started photographing. When my mother Sukhjeet Kaur questioned the strangers and resisted,a man sitting in a parked Skoda car told her to ask me to either stop opposing the Congress-led group in MC or get ready to face the dire consequences, alleged Prince, who said he was away from home at that time. He claimed that the person who threatened his mother was Rana.
Prince called the police later and DSP (City-I) G S Grewal and Mataur SHO Devinder Singh rushed to Princes house and recorded his father Daljeet Singh Walias statement before initiating investigations.
Demanding action against the accused,Walia held Rana and Sidhu responsible for any harm,if caused,to Prince or any other member of their family.
Prince said all councilors of the SAD-led group would boycott Wednesdays special MC House meeting called by Rana on their requisition to move a no-confidence motion against Rana. We will approach the state Government tomorrow to demand removal of Rana, he said.Rana,on the other hand, claimed that neither he nor any of his associates had visited Princes house. I am out of town and there is no reason for me or my men to resort to such tactics, he said, and accused the SAD of resorting to the allegations as a face saving measure.
