Mohali MC expansion sets stage for ward delimitation; BLOs begin ground mapping

Voter list update sparks political back-and-forth

MogaThe exercise has triggered early political mobilisation.

Following the expansion of Mohali Municipal Corporation limits, the administration has moved to begin the ward-delimitation exercise —an essential step before civic elections are notified. Booth level officers (BLOs) have been deployed for a house-to-house survey to verify voter details, update entries and collect demographic data that will form the basis of the new ward structure.

Officials said the boundary expansion has altered the city’s geography, making fresh data indispensable. “Accurate records alone can ensure fair representation in the new wards,” a senior officer said, adding that residents must keep their identification documents ready to avoid errors or exclusions in the revised rolls.
The exercise has triggered early political mobilisation. Local leaders across parties have begun mapping their strongholds, conscious that ward boundaries will influence organisational strength and candidate positioning. With each party seeking to safeguard its voter pockets, the ground survey has quietly acquired electoral undertones.

The administration, however, has maintained that the process will remain rule-bound. It has assured that residents furnishing correct details will not face hurdles when jurisdictional boundaries and civic service plans are finally redrawn. With the survey set to intensify in the coming days, political temperature is expected to climb further as Mohali readies for its next MC elections.
