The Municipal Corporation also made it clear that no fruit sellers, juice vendors or shopkeepers other than the authorised bidders will be permitted to sell coconut water in the city. “Any violation of this order will invite penalties and seizure of goods,” officials warned.
The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) Wednesday conducted the auction for 35 coconut water vending sites in the city for a one-year period, of which 24 sites were allotted to successful bidders. The transparent bidding process was held at the Municipal Corporation office under the supervision of Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, in the presence of a Mohali DC representative.
A total of 45 bidders participated after depositing a two-month advance amount and receiving tokens. Eventually, 27 sites were successfully auctioned, generating an approximate revenue of Rs 1.55 crore for the Municipal Corporation.
The highest bid of Rs 12 lakh per annum was recorded for a site near the main gurdwara in Phase 11 while the lowest site fetched Rs 3.50 lakh.
Officials said that, considering traffic concerns, no sites were allotted on footpaths or roadsides this time. Vendors will be allowed to operate only from designated parking areas or approved locations.
The Municipal Corporation also made it clear that no fruit sellers, juice vendors or shopkeepers other than the authorised bidders will be permitted to sell coconut water in the city. “Any violation of this order will invite penalties and seizure of goods,” officials warned.
