The Commissioner of Municipal Corporation,Mohali,on Monday held a meeting with representatives of various welfare associations to discuss the newly-imposed property tax in the state. The meeting was held with the objective of clarifying doubts regarding the property tax and to explain its conditions and technicalities.
Commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta appealed to the gathering to come forward and interact with the corporation regarding the tax at any time and not boycott such meetings. Some associations are opposing the tax but they are not present here to discuss the issue with us. MC hasnt introduced the tax and if someone is not ready to pay it,its his/her independent decision. We are only here to create awareness about the payment of the tax, he said.
Gupta said the total expected revenue which the corporation will earn after collecting the tax from will be around Rs 12 crore while the expected expenditure required for development works in the town is Rs 20 crore. Elaborating,he said that the expected revenue from the residential areas will only be around 20 per cent of the total revenue while the expected expenditure on residential areas will be around 80 per cent of the total expenditure. He added,residents must not oppose the tax instead pay it for their own benefit.
