A 24-year-old Mohali resident, Vishal Behl of Phase 10, was seriously injured after a group of youths allegedly assaulted him in broad daylight.
According to the statement he gave to the police, the incident happened on November 24 when he was riding his Activa scooter towards Sector 46.
Vishal told the police that around 1 pm, as he reached the traffic lights between sectors 10 and 11, a scooter rider approaching from the Mohali Club side “tried to ram into my scooter at high speed”. When he objected, the accused stopped his vehicle, grabbed him, and immediately called his associates to the spot.
Within minutes, four youths arrived in a Bolero and allegedly began beating him mercilessly. Vishal said the driver struck him on the head with a baseball bat, causing a serious injury.
A passerby, Gurdev Singh, intervened and managed to rescue the victim. The attackers fled the scene after allegedly issuing threats to kill him. A PCR team later took Vishal to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32.
Once his condition stabilised, he reported the matter to the police. Following verification, the police registered a case against the accused Ramanpreet Singh, Karanpreet Singh, Vishal, Harpreet Singh and one unidentified youth under sections 115(2), 351(2), 191(3) and 190 of the BNS.
