The Mohali district court on Monday ordered framing of charges against Jagtar Singh Hawara, who has been sentenced to life in prison for the assassination of former Punjab CM Beant Singh, in another terror-related case.
As per details, the present case against Hawara is 18 years old. The court on Monday fixed September 18 as the next date of hearing in the case.
Hawara’s counsel, Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, said that he moved an application in the court in August 2021 to discharge Hawara in the case and the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Krishan Kumar Singla, had subsequently dismissed the application and instead ordered the framing of charges.
Manjhpur added that Hawara was produced in court through video conferencing (VC) on Monday and the court ordered the framing of charges against him under sections 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with section 25 of the Arms Act and Sections 4,5 of Explosive Substances Act.
Hawara was booked in 2005 in Kharar (sadar) police station under Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act in the present case.
