IN ORDER to ensure security of vital installations in the district, including the Mullanpur Air Force base and Chandigarh International Airport, Deputy Commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu on Tuesday held an emergency meeting with police officers. It was decided that the administration would soon install CCTV cameras at all sensitive places in the district.
The DC constituted a coordination committee comprising officials of the civil administration, Air Force and local police authorities to deal with security issues of the key installations in the district.
After the meeting, which was also attended by the officials of the Chandigarh International Airport, the DC told Chandigarh Newsline that he chaired the meeting and sought details of the illegal constructions around the Chandigarh airport. He directed the officials concerned to remove these constructions with immediate effect. He also held a discussion with the police and Air Force officials about installing CCTV cameras at the vital installations in the district.
The DC said that he had formed a coordination committee comprising officials of the civil administration, police and Air Force to share information and inputs to strengthen the security apparatus. The members of this committee were told to share their phone numbers so that they could speak to each other directly in case of an emergency, especially regarding the suspicious activities and illegal constructions around the airport buildings.
Captain M K Sharma, who participated in the meting on behalf of the Air Force, discussed the problems of illegal encroachments around the airport and urged
the administration to start a drive to remove these.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar told Chandigarh Newsline that they had already sounded an alert in the district and special checking drives were going on at suspicious places. SHOs had been told to lay special nakas at night.
