The District Court on Wednesday sentenced constable Ajit Singh Parmar to 14 years in jail, convicting him of raping his teenage daughter. The court has also slapped a fine of Rs 1,02,000 on Parmar.

Giving the judgment, Additional Sessions Judge Tarsem Mangla said that failure to pay the fine would lead to an extension in the convict’s jail term by a year.

As per sources, the case was registered a year ago when Ajit Singh Parmar was posted in the Commando Complex,

Phase 11 and resided in Sector 66, Mohali. Parmar had a 13 year-old daughter and a son from his first marriage, and had remarried since then.

The issue came to light when the victim informed her step-mother of Parmar’s actions. Parmar had allegedly been raping his daughter for over a year.

On being informed of this, Parmar’s second wife then alerted the girl’s maternal family. The victim’s aunt then approached an NGO in Panchkula and reported the matter to the police. The accused was then arrested, and a case was registered under Sections 323 and 376 of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
