Even as Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Thursday inaugurated the Max super-speciality hospital within the premises of Mohali Civil Hospital, trouble is already brewing over its approach road. Civil hospitals Senior Medical Officer Rajeev Bhalla has said Max will not be allowed to use the hospital approach road.
The Civil Hospital management has insisted that the two hospitals must be separated by a boundary wall to establish the two as separate entities, with one having nothing to do with the other.
The Civil Hospital, backed by Punjab Health Systems Corporation, has been objecting to the use of its approach road by Max.
Max Hospital has been built on 3.20 acres within the Civil Hospital complex leased out to Max Healthcare.
Our road and parking area is on our land, and Max has no right to use it. They have been using it as a service road for over a year, but now we will not allow it, said Bhalla.
The SMO has been writing letters to Max for many months, asking it not to use the approach road. The Civil Hospital management says that due to dual use, their parking gets full, inconveniencing its patients and doctors.
Despite these letters,Max had the temerity to put up a board announcing their hospitals name just at the Civil Hospital entrance. This is unacceptable, Bhalla said.
Max has constructed an approach to their hospital, with the gate opening right on the national highway. The entrance has been approved by Punjabs Town and Country Planning Department but NHAI is yet to grant approval.
Its a minor issue but the behavior of the Civil Hospitals management shows their attitude towards us. When they disallowed us the use of the road even for the CMs visit,I had to tell them that it will shut down the hospital in case they continue to create such problems, said Max Healthcare Executive Director Dilpreet Brar, who is heading the Mohali unit.
