MNREGS scam: Police register FIR

On the basis of preliminary findings of the state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau,unearthing a scam in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.

On the basis of preliminary findings of the state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau,unearthing a scam in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS) and other development schemes in Sunni area of Shimla district,the police have registered a case of forgery and cheating.

The case has been registered against the pradhan,vice-pradhan and secretary of Daroga panchayat. The vigilance probe followed a complaint by one Kewal Ram Verma,a resident of Daroga,who alleged that the accused had misappropriated government funds allotted under various development schemes. Shimla Superintendent of Police Sonal Agnihotri said: “The vigilance has submitted certain documentary evidence. We are investigating the case to ascertain the amount of funds misappropriated.”
