Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) rebel and Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Jagbir Singh Brar today resigned from the Punjab Assembly as well as from the party and declared that he would join Manpreet Badal’s People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) soon.

Speaking to the media on Friday after handing reporters copies of his resignation addressed to the Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Brar said he had resigned because SAD’s policies were highly anti-people and anti-state.

“I feel frustrated to be the part of SAD and resign from the Assembly as well as from the party, which is no more following the ideology for which it was formed,” said Brar while adding that he will send his resignation from the party directly to SAD president Sukhbir Badal.

“I will join PPP formally soon,” he said.

About the delay in resigning from the Assembly,he said,“I was waiting for the decision of the disciplinary committee but I was never called by the committee and then I decided to resign on my own after taking my supporters into confidence”.

Sources said that rebels were delaying resignations to avoid by-elections.

Brar claimed he is ready to contest election from the Cantonment Assembly constituency anytime.

He said that Sukhbir Badal as president of SAD is neither capable nor competent to handle the affairs of the SAD,which is one of the oldest parties of the country.
