Dallewal announced a large-scale demonstration on December 7 that would be held in Amritsar, to press for accountability and action.
The leader of the Sikh Sadhbhawna Dal (SD) and the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (non-political) Monday announced a protest and demanded a police probe regarding the disappearance of 328 sacred copies of the Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Jagjeet Singh Dallewal, during a press meet, alleged that Guru Granth Sahib birs went missing from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC)’s publication department in 2015. The controversy has sparked considerable outrage within the Sikh community.
He also said that the SGPC has failed to take any action despite the matter’s gravity. He criticised the SGPC for not taking immediate steps in response to the allegations.
Dallewal announced a large-scale demonstration on December 7 that would be held in Amritsar, to press for accountability and action.
He also demanded that the Punjab Police, under the leadership of the Director General of Police (DGP), initiate a fair and thorough investigation. “We demand a transparent inquiry from the Punjab Police. If no concrete actions are taken by the police administration by December 7, we will intensify our protests.”
Baldev Singh Wadala, another leader at the press meet, accused the administration of suppressing those raising their voices for justice.
Wadala was referring to a protest that took place on October 24, 2020. The individuals demanding accountability regarding the missing birs were allegedly subjected to filing of false charges and physical assault.
Recalling his vow during the farmers’ hunger strike, Dallewal reiterated that he had promised to raise this issue again if he survived the protests. He also pointed out that despite directives from the court, no significant actions have been taken.
Dallewal also claimed that the BJP leaders denied appointments regarding the issue.
At the press meet, he issued a strong warning regarding any potential tampering with the sacred copies. He said that any attempts to alter or damage the revered texts would lead to serious consequences. “We will decide on the next course of action during this gathering, and we are committed to ensuring that the sanctity of our holy scriptures is protected.”
