Minor missing for a week found in Surat, police nab 21-year-old

The man was identified as Avinash Kumar Chaudhary, a native of Jharkhand.

The probe had earlier hit a roadblock when CCTV cameras installed at the Chandigarh railway station were found dysfunctional.

A 15-year-old girl who had been missing for a week was found in Surat (Gujarat) on Monday and a man has been arrested for allegedly abducting her, the UT police said.

The man was identified as Avinash Kumar Chaudhary (21), a native of Jharkhand. The case was registered under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“We traced the missing girl through her Instagram account and her friend list. The man was sent to judicial custody. The girl is fine and was brought back to her family. The victim had a smartphone but she was not using any SIM card and instead was operating it through a WiFi connection,” Sector 11 station house officer Inspector Jasbir Singh said.

The police found that at least three chats were deleted from the girl’s Instagram account.

The police had established that the girl had travelled to the railway station in an autorickshaw from Sector 15.

Sources said that the arrested man claimed that he knew the girl through social media. When contacted, the girl’s father said she is back home now.
