The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” This oft-repeated quote is something jewellery designer Varuna D Jani has heard many times. But there were times when she had the urge to put this into practice. On the occasion of Father’s day,the designer has announced her Very Own Wish (VOW) initiative. A first of its kind program,it is aimed at educating, mentoring and supporting talented and aspiring jewellery designers. Spearheaded by Jani herself, the program is not only open to anyone with a basic knowledge in jewellery making, but also to those who are passionate about building their own brand. “VOW is in the honour of my father Ramchand Popley,a renowned jeweller designer himself. He has been my mentor and has taught me to appreciate and understand the nuances of jewellery designing. What better than Father’s Day to announce it,” says Jani.

Jani says that there’s a lack of support for aspirants looking to create a niche for their work and themselves. “I want to provide them with an opportunity that gives them freedom, knowledge and skill to achieve their dreams,” she says.

The VOW initiative will take in 12 young aspiring designers and over 18 months will offer training in all aspects of design, communication, aesthetics, business planning, entrepreneurial and managerial skills, with customer interaction, exposure to media, manufacturing jewellery, market survey and personality development. “Experts and renowned faculty from around the country will train the individuals on aspects such as how to improve footfalls, visual merchandising and brand building,” lists out Jani, who will showcase their collections at a fashion show as well. She will also choose four out of the 12 designers and offer them a suitable avenue to retail and build their brand. Selected participants have to pay no fees and will be offered a stipend. Entries are invited at till June 30.
