Regarding the closure of general nursing and midwifery (GNM) course at Government Multi Specialty Hospital,Sector 16,a memorandum was submitted at the office of UT Home Secretary Anil Kumar.
Gurpreet Gabi,former president of Chandigarh Territorial Youth Congress,said,A delegation of the Youth Congress,along with parents of students,who have been harassed by the discontinuation of GNM at GMSH-16.
Students said that they had completed auxiliary nursing and midwifery (ANM) vocational course and wanted to get admitted to the GNM course at the hospital. When they approached higher authorities,they were told that the course was terminated owing to the 2006 guidelines of the health ministry and family welfare.
Gabi added,They did not discontinue it in 2006 and did it after seven years,without prior notice.
The students said that they met the home secretary as well,but it was of no use,as he gave them the same reason for change in rules.
