Dismayed by the sluggish response given to them by the Panchkula police,Mehak Garg’s family has decided to garner public support for a speedy investigation.

Mehak’s sister-in-law,Monika Aggrawal, has started a community on Facebook, called ‘Justice for Mehak’. There are about 30 members of the community and the page has received more than 80 likes. Mehak’s friends, relatives and acquaintances have joined the community and have been posting on it. Many who knew her say that Mehak was a bright young girl and it seems unlikely that she could have committed suicide.

Sapna Sandilya,a classmate and friend, comments,“What happened is unfair and we should all fight for Mehak and the rights of women in the country”. Other supporters have been commenting that they will support the family in this time of crisis. Some have also condemned police inaction in the matter. The community description mentions that Mehak had an unhappy marriage and was regularly tortured by her in-laws.

Rajeev,Mahek’s brother said,“Police is working on the case at a very slow pace,as if it is a chain snatching incident. Though they have proof, nobody is being arrested by them and they keep procrastinating”.

Panchkula DCP of Police,Parul Jain, however, said,“We are working on the case consistently but cant reveal the details as it might hamper the process of investigation. We will also be seeking further clarification on the medical details involved in the case”.
