Mega admission drive: Punjab claims to have enrolled 1 lakh students in govt schools on a single day

Enrolment campaigns in government schools were first started by former Punjab education secretary Krishan Kumar in 2017 who used to conduct door-to-door visits to convince the parents about the facilities available at government schools.

On the first day of the launch of the mega enrolment campaign for admissions to classes from pre-primary level to Class XII in government schools in Punjab, the state school education department claimed to have achieved more than 100 per cent on March 10.

Out of 23 districts, a dozen districts have achieved more than a hundred percent target in school admissions, while the remaining 11 have achieved between 78 per cent and 98 per cent of their target, officials said.

Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has ordered a mega admissions campaign in all government schools in the state from March 10. The first day’s campaign was held from 8 am to 8 pm.
