With the Municipal Corporation finding no takers for one of the kiosks at the Night Food Street,it has been proposed that the proposed price of food items be increased and then bids be called.
The civic body has revised its policies for the Night Food Street several times. But the attempts have been unsuccessful in reviving the Food Street, that was quite popular some time ago.
The MC had earlier fixed the rates at par with that of the food items provided at Panjab University. It is now being proposed that the rates at a kiosk be increased.
The rates that had been fixed earlier were proving not to be feasible for the kiosk owners.
A discussion on the same will be held at the meeting of the Finance and Contract Committee.
The Night Food Street was started with the aim of providing reasonable food to the students of Panjab University and attendants of patients at PGI throughout the night. While it functioned well in the first year of its inauguration, thereafter, the conditions deteriorated. One of the reasons was that the kiosks were auctioned at a very high price. While the MC earned a substantial revenue, the kiosk owners could not sustain business.
Gradually they started defaulting on payments and gave up the kiosks. In order to revive the Food Street,it was decided that instead of eight, just four kiosks would be made operational. Of these, one of the kiosks did not find any takers.
It is now being proposed that serving of non-vegetarian food be allowed at the kiosk and the rates of the food items available there be revised.
