A local court on Saturday discharged four people in the UT Municipal Corporation (MC) cement scam case. The court,however,framed charges against three other accused. The four who were absolved of the charges include MC Junior Engineer Raj Kumar,AK Singh and two Class IV employees,Thakur Singh and Chhedi Lal.
The court of the Additional District and Session Judge framed charges against driver Harvinder,a resident of Rajpura,government contractor Harshwardhan and his father Jawahar Jindal,both residents of Panchkula. They have been charged with criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust. The charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been removed.
The case dates back to March 2010,when the UT Vigilance Department impounded a truck at the Fun Republic Light Point after receiving a tip-off that 200 bags of cement had been loaded onto the truck from the MCs cement sub-store in Sector 17. The truck was reportedly going to Barwala,where government contractor Harshwardhans father had a factory.
According to the police,the pilfered cement was to be used in the factory of Jawahar Jindal,Harshwardhans father. The factory,Sarv Priya Building Products,manufactures cement tiles and paver blocks and has branches in Barwala and Panchkula. Several persons had been booked on charges of cheating,criminal breach of trust criminal conspiracy and various sections of the PC Act .
