Vote-Athon,run for a stronger democracy for creating awareness and encouraging young voters to enroll in the voters list was flagged off by UT Home Secretary-cum-Chief Electoral Officer Anil Kumar on Tuesday at Sukhna Lake.

The walk was followed by rendition of patriotic songs by singer Nitin Dawar at the lake. This is the first time the UT Election department has organised such an event for creating awareness. The department is focussing on encouraging young residents to enroll themselves as electors of the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency since the summary revision of the electoral rolls is going on. Special camps for enrollment of young residents shall be held in the universities, colleges and schools in the city.

For comprehensive participation of all the residents and to ensure 100 per cent registration, political parties and residents welfare associations have been asked to extend co-operation.

The Election department will depute more block-level officers (BLOs) in southern areas with special focus on co-operative housing societies and labour colonies.
