In two separate incidents, robbers shot at a man in Sector 16 and attempted to loot the Sector-8 post office on Saturday night. In both cases,no valuables or cash was reported stolen.

In the first incident,Kunal Bhatia (25),a resident of house number 790 in Sector 16,was shot in the stomach by unidentified men outside his house around 10 pm.

The motorcycle-borne assailants were reportedly following Kunal and his father Raj Kumar Bhatia from their confectionery shop in Sector 19-C.

“As soon as Kunal parked his car,two men, wearing helmets, stopped at the gate. One of them entered the house and enquired about some address from Raj Kumar, who was standing in the porch and carrying a bag with Rs 40,000 in it. The man then pretended to walk away but turned suddenly and tried to snatch the bag. When Raj resisted, the man opened fire. Raj narrowly escaped the bullet and raised the alarm. He threw the bag to his wife Saroj, who had come out of the door after hearing the noise outside,” said Sunil Juneja,Kunal’s father-in-law.

Kunal, meanwhile, caught hold of the other person, who had also entered the premises. In the scuffle that followed, the man fired at Kunal. The duo fled from the spot then.

Kunal was admitted in the PGI where the doctors stated him to be out of danger.

“The pistol must have been bearing a silencer as no one heard a gunshot. The men escaped on their bike. We do not have the vehicle’s number as the number plate was missing. We have registered a case,” a police officer said.

The second attempt at robbery was reported from the Post Office in Sector 8,where the locks on doors and cupboards had been broken but nothing was missing. Notably, the guard Harjinder Singh has gone missing since Saturday night.
