Man hits on-duty woman constable

A woman traffic police constable was assaulted on duty by a man as she tried to stop him near Sector 26.

A woman traffic police constable was assaulted on duty by a man as she tried to stop him near Sector 26.

The incident occurred at around 2 pm when Sneh Lata,a woman constable,was stationed for traffic regulation at the Sector 26/ 27/ 7/ 19 roundabout on traffic control duty.

The accused,20-year-old Sandeep,was riding his scooter from Sector 19/ 27 towards sector 7 at the time of the incident. When Sneh Lata directed Sandeep to stop,he got into an altercation with her and hit her.

“The woman constable was restricting traffic from the direction the accused was driving from. When she tried to stop him,he tried to ignore her and kept moving. When she persisted on making him stop,he started abusing her and even got down from his scooter and manhandled her,” said Hans Raj,the investigating officer (IO).

The man allegedly assaulted the woman constable and she fell down.

He also slapped her on the face,according to the police. A case has been registered for assaulting a constable on duty at sector 26 police station.

The accused is a resident of sector 7 and has been arrested.
