Man held with banned substances worth Rs 10 lakh

The Chandigarh Police on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man for alleged possession and supply of banned drugs worth around Rs 10 lakh.

The Chandigarh Police on Saturday arrested a 28-year-old man for alleged possession and supply of banned drugs worth around Rs 10 lakh and recovered more than 1.2 lakh capsules from his possession. The accused,who was arrested at a police barricade near Sector 41 by a team of the Operation Cell early morning,has been identified as Pawan Kumar,a resident of village Badheri in Sector 40.

According to the police,Kumar was carrying the drugs in 13 boxes,one suitcase and a bag on a cart when he was caught,and various banned drugs like Spasmocip,Parvon Spas and Spasmos Proxyvon were recovered from him. A case of possession of illegal drugs has been registered under section 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act in Police Station,Sector 39.

Kumar was allegedly a drug addict himself,and stored drugs in his rented room in Badheri to supply them to other addicts in the city,said the police. He was produced in a court and remanded to police custody for two days.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Operation Cell) Jagbir Singh said the involvement of local chemists in the supply of drugs has not been ruled out.
