The court of Additional Session Judge Preeti Sahini of Chandigarh District Court on Tuesday sentenced a Sector-25 resident to 7-year rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him for kidnapping a 14-year-old and then raping her.
The accused,Sanjiv Kumar,who was a resident of Sector 38 when the incident happened,was arrested by the police at a naka near Dental College,Sector 25. The incident dates back to October 6,2010,when the mother of the victim reported to the police that her 14-year-old daughter was missing. The UT police had registered a case of abduction.
It was alleged that an electricity switch went off late at night on October 6. The victim went to turn the switch on and did not return. After waiting for long,the victims mother looked around,following which got a case of abduction registered. A day before the incident,the accused,who had been living in Sector 38,had visited the residence of the victim.
Sanjiv was suspected by the parents,who was arrested on October 7,2010. The medical examination of the minor confirmed rape. Sanjiv had allegedly kidnapped the minor with a promise to marry her and then raped her.
The accused was sent behind bars for seven years on Tuesday,and a fine of Rs 5,000 was imposed on him.
