UT Police on Wednesday booked a man,Lucky alias Raminder,for allegedly pushing a sub-inspector and obstructing him from performing his duties in a dowry case. The accused is yet to be arrested by the police.
Police officials said that the incident took place outside State Bank of Patiala,Sector 10 branch on Monday when police had taken Ishaan Kataria,a man accused of demanding dowry and harassing his wife,to the bank by the police to operate the lockers.
When the police was supervising the recovery,the accused,Lucky,who is the brother of the complainant in the dowry case,pushed a Sub-Inspector and obstructed his duty.
A case was registered on Wednesday after the family of the accused,who was allegedly beaten in police custody,met the UT SSP. The SSP had then asked DSP Central Ashish Kapoor to inquire into the matter. On the basis of the inquiry report submitted by the DSP,a case was registered.
Earlier,DSP Ashish Kapoor,who inquired into the matter,said that Ishaan tried to flee from the spot. Clarifying his claims,DSP said,Ishaan was pushed towards the car by the accused Raminder instead.
Ishaan Kataria,26,was arrested by UT Police on Sunday after his wife accused him of harassing her for dowry. The incident took place on Wednesday when Ishaan was taken to the bank in Sector 10 to recover his wife Gurleens jewelery on Monday at about 1 pm.
Ishaans father and two of his friends who were accompanying him to the bank were allegedly assaulted along with Ishaan outside the bank by Ishaans brother-in-law and his friends. Police arrested both the parties under preventive measures. All the accused were bailed out by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.
