A 20-year-old Muslim youth who had married a Hindu girl was attacked by unknown persons on Wednesday afternoon,leaving him badly injured.
Identified as Alam Kadar,a UP resident,police officials said that he was seriously injured after being attacked by knives on Wednesday. He has been living near Industrial Area phase-I in a shanty. The boy was attacked by around 3-4 persons with knives near a temple in Baltana following which they fled from the spot. The boy had received several cuts on his body and was shifted to the PGI. According to sources,he was attacked at around 2.30 pm.
Deputy Commissioner of Police,(DCP),Panchkula,Ashwin Shenvi,said that the incident had occurred near a railway line due to which the GRP officials have been asked to investigate the matter.
Following the incident,the Panchkula Police informed Government Railway Police (GRP) officials,who took cognisance of the matter and a police official was dispatched to the PGI to record the statement of the boy. GRP officials said that they received the information late afternoon.
GRP officials said that the boy who was assaulted was not in a position to give his statement.
Police said that the boy was married to a UP girl,Suman,and the two had been living in Panchkula for quite some time. They had married a year ago and the family of the girl had reportedly opposed the marriage. Officials said that they are probing the role of family of the girl in the attack as the sister of the boy has alleged that among those who attacked him also include the family members of the girl.
Sources said that police is investigating whether the resistance put up by the girls family to the marriage had provoked the attack. The girls family had reportedly taken her away four days after the duo had contracted marriage. We are trying to find out whether the boy had been receiving any threats from the family of the girl earlier, said a police official.
