Several areas that were visited by a Congress MLA in Nuh ahead of a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession witnessed communal clashes on July 31, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij Tuesday said, adding that investigations so far suggest that the Opposition party had a hand in the violence that later spread to the adjoining districts and in which six people were killed.

“A sitting MLA of the Congress, Mamman Khan, has been given a notice by police to join the investigation. He will be questioned. The investigations, so far, have indicated that he was in contact with certain people who were involved in the violence,” said Vij.

“It has also been found that violence took place at all such spots that were visited by Mamman Khan on July 28, 29, and 30. He made a post on his Facebook that read ‘I fought your fight in the Assembly also, and I am with you in this fight too’,” Vij said while talking to reporters on the sidelines of the last day of the monsoon Session of the Assembly.
Known for his social activities across the Southern Haryana region, Khan represents Ferozepur Jhirka in the Vidhan Sabha. In 2019 polls, he had defeated his nearest rival, BJP’s Naseem Ahmed, by a margin of more than 32,000 votes.

The home minister’s remarks come a day after Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that “fingers are being pointed at some other Congress MLAs” in connection with the Nuh violence and added that absence of a response from the Opposition party certainly proves that “daal mai kuch kala hai (something is suspicious)”.

Vij said so far 510 people have been arrested while 130 FIRs have been registered. “Many of the arrested accused have a connection with the Congress. They include Congress workers or office who indulged in acts of arson and vandalism. As per the inquiry and the conclusions that are coming out, it seems that all this is done by the Congress”, Vij said.
He said the police are investigating to unearth the entire conspiracy behind the violence. “Very soon, we will come out with all evidence”.

Vij He said the state police will seek help from central agencies on a possible Pakistan angle in the incident. “Many videos and photos were shared from Pakistan. It is also being investigated why the cyber police station was particularly targeted by the rioters and set on fire,” he added.

On Monday, several BJP MLAs had blamed Khan for his allegedly provocative remarks during the Budget Session of the Assembly in February.

During that session, Khan had raised the issue of the killing of Rajasthan residents Nasir (25) and Junaid alias Juna (35), who were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes and their bodies were found inside a burnt car in Loharu in Haryana’s Bhiwani on the morning of February 16. The Congress MLA had named Monu Manesar, a Bajrang Dal member, as among those responsible for the murders.

Nine people, including Manesar who runs a cow protection group, were booked in the case by the Rajasthan Police. However, Manesar, in a video message, had denied his involvement in the case.

Asked about Manesar, the minister said there is no objection if the Rajasthan Police takes action in its case.
On a video of Manesar that he would join the procession in Nuh, which was widely circulated on social media, Vij said, “Efforts are being made to arrest him. Once he is in custody, he shall also be questioned. If he has also committed some wrong, action shall be taken against him, too”.

Targeting the opposition party, he said there were seven to eight incidents of violence during the previous Congress regime led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The Congress, he said, has not given any answer to these incidents.
“India is a secular country having diverse cultures and everyone has the freedom to practice the religion of their choice and carry on their religious activities. Muharram processions are conducted, Tajiyas are taken out. Sikhs also take out processions and other communities perform their religious rituals. There is an ancient temple in Nuh and people wanted to perform Jalabhishek in the month of Sawan. Why were shots fired? Why were stones hurled at them? Why shops were set on fire?,” asked Vij.

Terming the probe into Nuh violence as “a very big case”, Vij said said many people from Rajasthan were called and this is being investigated.

On opposition parties claiming that “intelligence failure” led to the Nuh incident, Vij said, “The CID report goes to the chief minister. The CID department is also with the chief minister. He can tell whether there was any (intelligence) report or not.”

Asked whether the Haryana government was not responsible for ensuring adequate security cover to the July 31 procession, “Yes, it was. But a big conspiracy was hatched. Otherwise, every year, the yatra is taken out and police personnel are deployed, and this year too, there was deployment.”

On the Congress party’s demand for a judicial probe into the Nuh incident, the home minister said police are conducting investigations.

Earlier, during Zero Hour in Assembly, Congress MLA from Nuh, Aftab Ahmed sought to corner the government. “When we had already alerted the police and district administration about the possibility of violence on July 31, inaction on part of government reveals its failure. The chief minister and home minister are giving statements outside the House, claiming that Congress does not want a discussion over the Nuh violence. The truth is that we are the ones who have been demanding a discussion on the floor of the House. We have also been demanding a judicial inquiry so that the conspiracy could be unveiled and the truth is unveiled”.

Without naming anyone, Ahmed said nobody will benefit out of the type of hate which is being spread in the state. “Haryana is a peace loving state, in which everyone lives peacefully,” he said.

Referring to the Nuh violence, another Congress MLA Mohd Illyas said he condemns what had happened. Communities have been
