Tragedy struck in the early hours of Friday when a Scorpio car overturned at a sharp curve near a gurudwara on Mohali’s Airport road, leaving one youth dead and two others severely injured.

The deceased, identified as Jasvir Singh (24), a resident of Malaysia, was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car when it overturned.

His body has been handed over to his family after post-mortem. According to the police, his last rites will be performed at his home in Malaysia.

The two injured, identified as Jaspran Singh of Jagraon (driver) and Jasvinderjit Singh, who was also a Malaysian citizen, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigating officer Jagmeet Singh revealed that Jasvir and his friend Jasvinderjit had arrived from Malaysia on August 13 to visit their cousin Jaspran Singh in Punjab. “Jasvir was very happy after meeting his extended family here,” the officer told The Indian Express.

At around 6 pm on Thursday, the trio set out in their Scorpio for sightseeing in Mohali. While returning around 3 am on Friday, the driver lost control on a curve. The vehicle rammed into an iron railing, overturned, and crashed onto the pavement.

Locals and the police immediately rushed them to the hospital, where doctors declared Jasvir Singh “dead” on arrival.
