Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC)president,Paramjit Singh Sarna, and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief,Avtar Singh Makkar,on Friday traded charges against each other after two groups clashed at Gurdwara Bala Sahib in New Delhi.

Talking to mediapersons here today,Sarna alleged that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders attacked the Gurdwara Bala Sahib with liquor bottles and stones, when the company, which was entrusted with operating a multi-specialty hospital, was about to begin the work on the project.

Sarna said DSGMC would seek registration of an attempt to murder case against the SAD leaders ‘involved’ in the attack.

SGPC chief,Makkar, while responding to queries on the issue, told mediapersons that a ‘bhoomipoojan’ was organised in violation of the ‘maryada’ at Gurdwara Bala Sahib, which was opposed.

A ceremony like ‘bhoomipoojan’ could not be allowed at a historical place like Gurdwara Bala Sahib.

“The sanctity of the Gurdwara was disrespected after police resorted to firing teargas shells,” Makkar said, accusing DSGMC of shifting the blame on SGPC.

Sarna, however, refuted the allegations and said that the ceremony was performed as per the maryada .

Accusing Badals and Makkar of implicating him in a ‘false case’,Sarna dared SAD leaders and SGPC chief to prove charges against him or resign from their posts.

Sarna said that SAD activists had put up posters in New Delhi stating that they would give evidence against Sarna in 60 hours or would quit. Sarna said it had been more than 60 hours since then, but no proof has been submitted against him. “If they give any proof of any sale deed or agreement to sell,I would quit. If they fail to do so,they should quit on moral grounds,” Sarna said.

“Sarna kehnda firda hai ki usde khilaaf case falaane ne karaata, dhingre ne karaata. Usnu pata hona chahida hai ki used khilaaf case court de judge de kehan te hoya hai (Sarna has been levelling allegations that certain persons got a case registered against him,but he should understand that the case against him has been registered on the directions of court judge),” Makkar said.

Notably,on the directions of the court,a case was registered against Sarna for ‘illegally’ transferring a plot of land allotted to it at a subsidised rate by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for a hospital to a private group. Sarna has been denying the allegations.
