Dressed in a figure-hugging black and white animal print dress, actor Mahie Gill was the centre of attention at Piccadily Square on Friday afternoon. Here to celebrate one year of the multiplex,Gill cut the cake along with Piccadily’s MD,Aditya Nath Sharma,in a room full of red and white balloons. “For the time being,I am looking forward to my next film Gang of Ghosts,in which my role is inspired by Meena Kumari,” said the actress, who confesses to seeing someone these days in Goa,and at the same time, admits that roles are few and far between. “There is nothing major coming my way — there is a song in Bullet Raja, and another film with Naseeruddin Shah, titled Michael,” she says.

Gill plays a nurse in Michael, acting as a link between Shah and his son. Directed by Ribhu Dasgupta, this coming-of-age film has Tanuj,Purav Bhandare and Sabyasachi Chakravarthy in key roles. Of Gang of Ghosts, she said the film is directed by Satish Kaushik and pays a tribute to the cinema of the ’60s and the ’70s. She adds,“I’m a huge fan of Meena Kumari and it was a great honour for me to emulate her on screen. I studied her in films such as Baiju Bawra and Dil Ek Mandir.”

While there are no Punjabi films for now,Gill says she would rather act in Punjabi films that invest in them as a producer. “After the success of Carry on Jatta, people from abroad called incessantly, wanting to invest crores in Punjabi films. But one has to understand the medium of cinema, have a will, passion and vision for cinema and then invest,” she says.

The celebrations at Piccadily Square culminate on September 28 with the screening Chhota Bheem for underprivileged kids at Piccadily Square. A blood donation camp was also held on September 26.
