For the second time within a week, BJP Patiala parliamentary constituency candidate Preneet Kaur faced the ire of farmers who staged a massive protest against her in the Samana sub-division of Patiala district on Sunday.

Showing black flags and raising slogans against her and the BJP, farmers from several unions blocked the road outside and tried to gherao her as she arrived for party’s Booth Summit to release Sankalp Patra.

Preneet Kaur, a four-time Patiala MP of the Congress, and the wife of former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, recently joined the BJP and also got the party’s ticket from Patiala — the royal family’s bastion. Except in 2014, when AAP’s Dr Dharamvira Gandhi defeated her, Preneet was elected as the Patiala Lok Sabha MP four times — 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2019 — on a Congress ticket.
