Not one luxury car, but an entire fleet now accompanies newlyweds in Punjab in latest fad
Tejwant Singh of Dashmesh Luxury Wedding Cars says, "NRIs started this trend to show off but now even others follow it... These days people even book a fleet of Mercedes Benz G-Wagons for weddings."
Rental services are posting reels of the same on Instagram to attract more customers this wedding season. (Express Photo) Big, fat weddings are common among Punjabis because they believe in living life ‘king size’. Now, car rental services are cashing in on a new trend that involves displaying a fleet of luxury cars at the baraat, which is the celebratory procession that takes the groom to the wedding venue. Rental services are posting reels of the same on Instagram to attract more customers this wedding season.
Recently a Begowal-based car rental service posted a list of vehicles available for a rate of Rs 1.35 lakh for a day, including a G-Wagon, Maybach, BMW, Jaguar XJ, and a Range Rover.
“Earlier, people would hire one luxury car, like a limousine, for just the bride and groom, but now there is a fleet of luxury cars. Some prefer to have several cars of one model while others opt for a combo package,” says Goldy Dhillon of Ludhiana-based Sahib Tours and Travels. “I get these cars arranged on rent for many customers. The rates are different if the wedding is within Ludhiana. It is more expensive if the vehicles are meant to go outside Ludhiana,” Dhillon adds.
