Ludhiana SAD chief Harbhajan Singh Dang dies at 69

Gurdeep Singh Gosha, a BJP leader, said, “Dang was rushed to the hospital on Sunday morning where he was declared dead.”

The veteran leader was cremated on Sunday afternoon at Model Town Extension cremation ground. Akali leaders described him as a hard worker who toiled for the party till his last breath.

Dang had contested the municipal corporation elections from ward 46 or 47 since 1991 and never lost, said Dhillon, adding that he won a total of five times. In 2012, his wife Surjit Kaur Dang won from ward number 47 as the ward had been reserved for women. Dang was also the chairman of the Punjab Health Systems Corporation from 2016 to 2017 during the SAD-BJP rule.

After his win in the 2018 municipal polls, Dang was made the leader of opposition. When the SAD made him the Ludhiana district president, however, party councillor Jaspal Singh Giaspura took over as LoP in January 2022.
