A woman and her foster brother were allegedly murdered by a man the woman was in a live-in relationship with late on Wednesday,the police said. A dispute over the property led to the murders,the police added.
The police have registered a case against Mangal,the alleged assailant,for the murder of Darshana and her foster brother,Rajpal. The case was registered based on the complaint of Darshnas son Sonu,a resident of Gagan Avenue on Sher Shah Suri road,Chheharta in this district.
In his complaint Sonu alleged that when he returned home on Wednesday,he saw Mangal attacking his mother with a sharp edged weapon. He later also attacked Rajpal.
Commissioner of Police,Amritsar,R P Mittal,said that Darshanas husband had deserted her some eight years ago and she had started living in with Mangal.
They had jointly purchased a plot and pledged the same for a loan of Rs 2 lakh. With an im to repay the loan,they had struck a deal with someone to sell the plot, Mittal said.
Since two months,Rajpal had also been staying with the family. The registry of the plot was scheduled for Thursday. On Wednesday night,both Mangal and Rajpal consumed liquor together and went to sleep. The complainant,Sonu,left for work in the morning and when he returned at 2 am,he saw Mangal attacking Darshana and Rajpal, Mittal said,adding that Mangal wanted to pocket the money received after selling the plot.
