WITH rising concerns about high concentration of lead in paints that may lead to toxic effects in the population,especially infants and unborn fetuses,CSE’s recent study has brought in some respite. “ICI Paints have the least lead content,” it read. In the research 25 enamel paint samples (five colours of five brands) manufactured by major players were randomly tested for lead content. All the samples of brand Dulux (ICI Paints) contained lead much below the specified limit of 1000 ppm (0.1 per cent) specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
