A police informer was thrashed mercilessly and his wife insulted by members of the liquor mafia in full public view on Tuesday.

Haril Paul,a reporter with an evening daily,had reportedly tipped off the police about a truck which was modified by members of organised liquor mafia in the city to smuggle liquor.
Paul was thrashed with blunt weapons and his wife was made to beg for mercy for her husband by touching the feet of Paul’s attackers.
The incident took place in the evening when Paul,along with his wife Poonam,was heading towards Manimajra near IT Park.
A vehicle rammed into Paul’s motorcycle. As a result of the attack,Paul suffered 16 fractures. Paul has told the Police that a total of six persons beat him with blunt weapons.
He identified three persons as Azad Singh,Bhandari and Monu. Different police parties were put on job by the Chandigarh Police to arrest the accused.
A case on charges of attempt to murder and criminal conspiracy was registered by the Chandigarh Police.
