The local administration Friday suspended the licences of 10 liquor vends for two weeks. The Drugs Controller-Cum Licencing Authority, Chandigarh Administration, also suspended the licences of four chemist shops Friday for 10 days for violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. These shops have also been sealed by the health department.
The vends include three located in Ramdarbar Colony and Phase II of Industrial Area, one in Sector 17, two in sectors 36 and 37, two in in Motor Market, Manimajra, and two in Badheri and Sector 41.
In addition, the bar licence of Hotel Park Plaza, Sector 17, has been closed for 15 days.
Further, the administration has imposed a penalty of Rs 25 lakh on Paara, a discotheque run by M/s Nucleus Hospitality, for revoking the suspension of its bar license.
The VAT liability of PAARA will be assessed later on.
Additional Excise Commissioner, Kashish Mittal, has confirmed the orders and has stressed that those engaging in illegal activities concerning liquor trade will be dealt with severely as per law.
On August 4, raids were carried out at the four chemist shops by a team comprising Danish Ashraf, SDM (East), and the officials of health department.
The shops include M/s Gazal Medicos, M/s Vishal Medicos, and M/s Rakesh Medicos in Bapu Dham Colony, Sector 26, and M/s Sanjivani Medicos in Sector 7.
“None of these shops had a qualified pharmacist, which is a basic requirement,” said a drug controller officer.
