Now driving your vehicle at high speed even during night hours will attract a traffic challan, as to enhance road safety and enforce traffic regulations effectively, the Chandigarh Traffic Police has introduced the use of laser speed guns during nighttime.

The traffic police has initiated the night hour challaning on Monday and four vehicles were issued fines for exceeding speed limits in the city.

There will be surprise checks all across the city too by the traffic policemen in a bid to ensure that vehicles don’t cross the speed limits.

SSP (Traffic) Sumer Pratap Singh said, “this initiative is particularly significant as it addresses the growing concern of speeding during nighttime, when violators often assume that enforcement is lax and no challans will be issued”.

“Currently, the Chandigarh Traffic Police has six laser speed guns, which will be strategically placed at various locations across the city known for frequent speeding incidents,” the SSP (Traffic) said.

“This targeted enforcement not only ensures better monitoring but also acts as a strong deterrent to those who habitually violate speed limits,” he added.

“The step reinforces the message that traffic laws are applicable at all times, and strict action will be taken against offenders day or night. It is a proactive move toward making Chandigarh’s roads safer for all,” the SSP (Traffic) further said.
