Lakshay-Vineet rescue Chandigarh

Had Lakshay Rakhra and Vineet Dhaka not scored unbeaten 134 runs and 131 runs respectively,on the first day of U-16 Punjab Inter District Cricket Tournament M.L. Markan Trophy match against Jalandhar at the DAV School,Sector 8 Grounds,Chandigarh team would have been in deep trouble.

Had Lakshay Rakhra and Vineet Dhaka not scored unbeaten 134 runs and 131 runs respectively,on the first day of U-16 Punjab Inter District Cricket Tournament M.L. Markan Trophy match against Jalandhar at the DAV School,Sector 8 Grounds,Chandigarh team would have been in deep trouble.

Winning the toss,Chandigarh team opted to bat first. Chandigarh top-order struggled against the Jalandhar pacers,who bowled at good line and length to keep the noose tight on the opposition batsmen. Chandigarh batsmen were so clueless in the beginning that they managed to score mere 15 runs within first 10 overs.

After such a slow start,Chandigarh openers,Jasnoor and the in-form Bhagminder Singh,succumb to the pressure and gave away their wickets for 2 and 28 runs respectively. Manikaran sent Jasnoor packing while Bhagminder was clean bowled by Karan Kahlon. Chandigarh got another blow when their number three batsman Raman Bishnoi’s stumps were rattled by Rohit. It was left to Lakshay Rakhra and Vineet Dhaka to strengthen the position for their team.

The duo was associated in a fourth-wicket stand of 230 runs in 54.1 overs. This massive partnership put Chandigarh team on top. Vineet was eventually removed by Manikaran for 131 runs. His knock included 24 boundaries. Manikaran struck again when he had Pardeep Yadav snapped by Sahil for 16 runs.

Lakshay Rakhara remained undefeated on 134 off 243 balls,inclusive of 20 boundaries. Chandigarh were 338 for 5 in 98 overs at close of play. Manikaran was pick of the bowlers for Jalandhar taking three wickets for 79 runs.

Ludhiana in command

In another match,in reply to Ropar’s first innings total of 315 runs in 80.1 overs against,Ludhiana team was 37 for one in 19 overs. Winning the toss against Ludhiana,Ropar opted to bat and posted a competitive total of 315 runs in 80.1 overs. Ropar innings was led by third-wicket stand of 62 runs between Sahil Chander and Jagdeep. Sahil Chander scored run-a-ball 76 runs inclusive of 12 boundaries while Jagdeep ended with a sedate 54 off 114 balls,inclusive of 7 boundaries. Amrit Pal (46) and Rohit Sharma (29) were the other run getters for Ropar. Off-spinner Sher Bahadur (4 for 81),Manan Jain (2 for 80) and Ramandeep (2 for 47) shared the spoils for Ludhiana. Ludhiana were 37 for 1 in 19 overs at close of play.

Spinners’ day out

In the third match played at Baradari Ground in Patiala,Mohali won the toss against Patiala and opted to bat. Patiala spinners called the tune and skittled Mohali out for 160 in 69 overs. Left-arm spinner Sudeep (5 for 46) and off-spinner Gurtek Singh (3 for 34) spun a web around Mohali batsmen.

Shubham scored 45 runs while Siddharth chipped in 38 runs for Mohali.In reply,Patiala were 57 for 3 in 28 overs at close of play. Sanbir Singh was standing firm with an unbeaten 38 runs. Left-arm spinner Amish (2 for 22) was the most successful bowler for Mohali.
