CHANDIGARH: Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector 47,Chandigarh emerged winners after beating Kendriya Vidyalaya CRPF Pinjore in the final of the handball event on the last day of the 44th KVS Regional Sports Meet held at Kendriya Vidyalaya Sector 47 in Chandigarh. Competitions were held in handball,taekwondo and skating in the three-day sports meet. More than 160 participants from the Chandigarh region took part in the event.

Cricket trials in Zirakpur today

CHANDIGARH: Sky Line Cricket Academy,Zirakpur will conduct trials on September 8 for under-19 cricketers at 3pm at the academy grounds. Anupam stars in Chandigarh win

CHANDIGARH: Riding high on Anupam Gambhir’s all-round performance (27 not out and 3 for 6),the Chandigarh team recorded an eight-wicket win over Yamuna Nagar in a match played during Haryana Inter-District Cricket Tournament being played for Pataudi Trophy held at the GMSSS,Sector 19 in Chandigarh on Saturday. Batting first,Yamuna Nagar were bowled out by Chandigarh for 135 runs in 28.1 overs. Lovekesh top scored for the visitors with 57 runs. For Chandigarh,Prabjot (3 for 33) and Anupam Gambhir (3 for 6) bowled a superb line and length to put the Yamuna Nagar batsmen on a leash. In reply,Chandigarh achieved the target in 21.3 overs. Rocky Ratta (42) and Guntashveer Singh (38) were the main scorers for Chandigarh. Anupam remained unbeaten on 27 and steered his team to victory.

Sri Aurobindo players shine in dodgeball meet

CHANDIGARH:Sri Aurobindo School players brought laurels to the school when they finished second and third in boys and girls’ under-14 age category in the Chandigarh State ddgeball championship organised by the Dodgeball Association of Chandigarh. A total of 18 teams from different schools and clubs from Chandigarh were taking part in the championship. However,the Sri Aurobindo School came up with a spirited display and secured position in both the categories.

Zoravar canters to easy win

CHANDIGARH:To give match experience to its trainees,Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) is conducting Tennis-10s tournament in which the players will play with specially designed green and orange balls. The tournament will be held on the weekends,i.e September 8-9,14-15,and September 21 at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10. The match format is best of 13 games (no additional scoring) for green balls while it will be best of nine games for orange balls. As many as 80 players have signed in for the tournament. In the first round match in the boys’ orange ball court,Zoravar Dhillon cruised to an easy 5-0 win over Dhrub Malhotra. Similarly,Pratham Mehta defeated Kartik Goel while Adit Luthra managed to overcome a spirited Monga and beat him 5-4 in a closely fought encounter.

Moga & Amritsar eves record easy wins

CHANDIGARH: Led by superb bowling performances from Harmanpreet Kaur (3 for 11) and Sunita Rani (2 for 10),Moga recorded a facile nine-wicket win over Ludhiana in a match played during the ongoing Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament for Women at Moga. With this win,Moga earned five points including a bonus point. Moga elected to field after winning the toss and bundled out Ludhiana for 56 runs in 29.1 overs. Monika Rani (29) and Neha Khan (12 no) were the main scorers for Ludhiana. For Moga,captain Harmanpreet Kaur (3 for 11),Sunita Rani (2 for 10) and Parveen Khan (1 for 14) shared the spoils. In reply,Moga achieved the target in 23.2 overs after losing one wicket. Amandeep Kaur (27 no) and Amarpal Kaur (16 no) were the principal run-getters for Moga.

In the second match,Amritsar defeated Patiala by eight wickets. Patiala were skittled out for 93 runs in 43.3 overs. Gurpreet (33) emerged as the highest scorer for Patiala. For Amritsar,Neelam Bisht (4 for 14) and Neha (2 for 18) were the main wicket takers.

Batting second,Amritsar scored 94 for the loss of two wickets in 18.2 overs. Renu Verma (34) and Sneh Rana (27 no) were the main architects of Amritsar’s triumph. Medium-pacer Moksha Chaudhary (2 for 23) was the main wicket-taker for Patiala. With this win,Amritsar secured five points including a bonus point.

Rohit makes a winning start

MOHALI: Rohit Kumar Sai couldn’t have asked for a better start in the boys’ under-16 first round qualifying match of the AITA Talent Series Total Tennis Championship as he humbled Yuvraj Gowel 6-0 to enter the second round qualifying round,at the Manav Mangal School on Saturday. In the second qualifying round also,Rohit produced a stellar performance and lost just one game to register an easy 7-1 win over Sarawath in a lop-sided encounter. Among those who won their second round qualifying matches were Rohit Kumar,Rishabh Sharda and Calvin Golmei. Rohit thrashed Rahul Rana 7-0.
