AFTER 21 days of the brutal murder of senior journalist K J Singh and his mother Gurcharan Kaur, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), investigating the murders, summoned the slain journalist’s nephew, Ajay Pal Singh, and his elder brother, Vijay Pal Singh, to join the investigation and questioned them for about two-and-a-half hours on Saturday, said a highly placed source, who is privy to the investigation.
This was the first time that the SIT officially summoned the family members of KJ after the sensational murder which came to light on the afternoon of September 23. The two were questioned at the Phase-8 police post.
Although Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal confirmed the development, he refused to divulge further details about the outcome of the questioning. Sources at SIT said, “The CCTV footage, in which some suspicious people were observed roaming around the house of the journalist, was also one of the subjects of the questioning.”
Sources further said, “Ajay Pal was asked why he left KJ’s home after staying for long time while Vijay Pal was asked about the property details of the family.” Ajay Pal, along with his mother Yashpal, were the first to discover the bodies when they came to give lunch to KJ and Gurcharan Kaur on September 23 at around 1 pm. It was Ajay, who informed the other family members after discovering the bodies. Ajay Pal also sent a joke to KJ on WhatsApp at 9.13 pm on Friday night, a day before the gruesome murders.
Vijay Pal was the last person with whom KJ spoke for the last time. KJ called Vijay Pal at around 7.25 pm on the night of September 22. Police have also zeroed in on a turbaned man, who along with two men, were captured while roaming suspiciously near KJ’s house.
