Ludhiana gave a strong reply to Chandigarh's mammoth first innings total of 494 runs and scored 312 runs for the loss of five wickets in 126 overs

Ludhiana gave a strong reply to Chandigarh’s mammoth first innings total of 494 runs and scored 312 runs for the loss of five wickets in 126 overs in the match played at the PAU grounds in Ludhiana during the ongoing Punjab Inter-District Cricket Tournament being held for Katoch Shield Trophy. For Ludhiana,Anil Sihag (115 no) and Gitansh Khera (114) were the main architects of Ludhiana’s chase. For Chandigarh,left-arm spinner Gurinder Singh bowled well to scalp four wickets. Ludhiana team is still 182 runs behind Chandigarh’s total. Resuming at 65 for 2,Ludhiana got into a good position due to the fifth-wicket stand of 189 runs between Anil Sihag and wicket-keeper Gitansh Khera. Both the batsmen matched stroke for strokestroke as they slaughtered the Chandigarh attack. Gitansh Khera’s konck of 114 runs included nine boundaries and four huge sixes while Anil Sihag’s unbeaten knock of 115 runs had three boundaries and one six. At this stage,the match is evenly poised.

Jalandhar take lead

BUOYED by knocks from Himanshu Satyawan (110) and Abhishek Gupta (72),Jalandhar earned a 12-run lead against Patiala in a match being played at the Dhruve Pandove Stadium in Patiala. The hosts had made 368 runs in their first innings. Jalandhar ended the day with 380 runs on the board. Resuming at overnight score of 100 for one,Jalandhar went on to score 380 runs in 126.4 overs to earn a vital lead of 12 runs. Himanshu Satyawan smashed a brilliant hundred (110) off 148 balls that included nine boundaries. Jalandhar skipper Taruwar Kohli and Mandeep Singh Jr added 49 runs for the second-wicket. Jalandhar then lost three quick wickets in the form of Taruwar Kohli,Mandeep Singh Sr. and Love Kumar and were reduced to 162 for 5. Thereafter,Abhishek Gupta and Himanshu Satyawan got together to stitch a partnership of 140 runs for the sixth-wicket to propel Jalandhar. Abhishek was removed by left-arm spinner Rajwinder Singh for 72 runs. Himanshu then found an able partner in Yogesh Kumar and the duo added 44 runs for the eight-wicket to take the total to 380 runs. For Patiala Rajwinder Singh (5 for 115),Beant Singh (2 for 69) and Mohit Mohindra (2 for 66) were the main wicket takers. Patiala were 7 for no loss in six overs at close of third day’s play.

Losing their last five wickets for 76 runs in the span of 23 overs,Mohali were bowled out for 395 runs in134.2 overs in their first innings in reply to Amritsar’s total of 200 runs. Bir Virk remained unbeaten on 68 runs For Amritsar,Kamal Passi (3 for 82),Charanjit Singh (3 for 108),Vinay Chaudhary (2 for 50) and Sunny (2 for 71) shared the spoils.

Trailing by 195 runs,Amritsar had a disastrous start in the second innings as their opener Karan Sharma was snapped Barinder Sran off Harmeet Bansal for a duck. Thereafter,opener Rohan Marwaha and Navneet Singh added 70 runs for the second-wicket before Navneet Singh was caught by Harsrup Singh off Harmeet Singh for 40 runs. At this stage Sharad Lumba joined Rohan Marwaha and the duo thwarted all attempts of the Mohali bowlers as they batted tenaciously to register an unbeaten third -wicket partnership of 125 runs and in the process wiped out the first innings deficit of 195 runs to put their team ahead by 8 runs at close of third day’s play at the PCA Stadium Mohali. Rohan Marwaha was unbeaten on 95 runs while Sharad Lumba was unbeaten on 63 runs.
