Kher institutes international creative award after his father

Simplicity,humility and happiness were three words that actor and Shimla-born theatre personality Anupam Kher learnt from his father Pushkar Nath Kher – a Kashmiri Pandit,who chose Shimla as his home in 1949.

“I was a super star for my father since I was in Class 5 – when I began my career in theatre – and till my last movie he watched with me,few days before his death on February 10,2012 in Mumbai due to prolonged illness,” Kher said while sharing his memories at Shimla’s Gaiety Theatre – where he stepped into theatre.

In Shimla with ashes of his father,the Bollywood actor said,“Despite being a common man,who worked as clerk in the state’s forest department and retired as the head clerk,my father had an great sense of humour.”

Kher announced the institution of an international award in the memory of his father for outstanding work in the field of creative art. The award,which will be give annually at a function in Shimla will have Rs 1 lakh and citations.

Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and Director General of Police D S Manhas were also present to pay their tributes.
