Tensions flared up in Mohali after pro-Khalistani slogans were found painted on the wall of Ambedkar Housing Society in Sector 76. In a video released by banned separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), its terrorist leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannu claimed responsibility for the act.
The slogans read “Sikh is not Hindu” and “SFJ Zindabad Khalistan”, and a Khalistani flag was also hoisted at the location.
In a provocative message, Pannu calls for the removal of all statues of Dr B R. Ambedkar on April 14, Ambedkar Jayanti, alleging that the Indian Constitution denied Sikhs a distinct identity. He accused Article 25(b) of the Constitution of enabling the “legal framework for Sikh genocide” by classifying Sikhs as Hindus.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Deepak Pareek confirmed that a case has been registered under the SC/ST Act and Section 192 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Pannu and unidentified persons.
In the video, Pannu appeals to Dalit communities to worship Bhagat Ravidas instead and issued warnings to the chief ministers of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana to cancel Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations. He threatened a major incident in the coming days, posing a threat to communal harmony in Punjab.
