Keetu murder: Main accused Jassa nabbed

The main accused in the murder of former MLA Malkit Singh Keetu was on Monday nabbed jointly by the the Barnala and the Dera Bassi Police.

The main accused in the murder of former MLA Malkit Singh Keetu was on Monday nabbed jointly by the the Barnala and the Dera Bassi Police.

Jaspreet Singh Jassa,the main accused,was caught while travelling on the Nimbua village link road. One of his associates,Rashpal Singh,was injured in an exchange of fire.

Jassa was travelling in a white car along with four others when the police apprehended it. The police team then surrounded the car,forcing it to stop.

The accused then opened fire on the police,and the police returned the gunfire. During this exchange of fire,Rashpal Singh sustained a leg injury.

The police managed to nab Jassa,who was trying to escape from the spot,while the other three persons in the car managed to escape,leaving the car and the injured person behind. The hunt for them is on,according to police.

Rashpal Singh was rushed to Civil Hospital,Dera Bassi from where he was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital,Sector 32 (GMCH-32).

Police have recovered a .32 revolver and 2 live cartridges from Jassa.

Jassa,Rashpal Singh and the three others who managed to escape have been booked under the Arms Act and proceedings have been initiated.
