Day after the Himachal Pradesh Police filed a chargesheet against 17th Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje,naming him as an accused in a case relating to the seizure of cash and foreign currency belonging to 26 countries in raids triggered by a suspected land deal,the Karmapas office on Thursday claimed that the Karmapa had no involvement in the financial administration of the office or the trust.
We have provided the authorities complete details and documents pertaining to the case. At no point of time,His Holiness 17th Karmapa was ever called or examined by the investigating agency. He has no involvement,direct or indirect,in the financial administration of the office or trust, said spokesman Karmpa Chungyalpa at Dharamshala. He added that the Karmapa Office of Administration had only read media reports and is yet to be served with any official notice. The CJM court at Una was yet to take cognizance of the alleged offences against the 17th Karmapa. The entire matter was sub-judice and as such the office cannot offer any comments at this stage, he added.
The Karmapa Office of Administration is in regular touch with their lawyers and the next course of action will be decided only once the court takes any decision on the chargesheet filed, said Chungyalpa.
Meanwhile,the state police on Thursday sent a letter to the home department asking it to take up the matter with Union Home ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding grant of sanctions under Foreign Current Regulations Act against the 17th Karmapa and his trust for keeping unaccounted foreign currency to the tune of Rs 7.05 crore at the Gyuto monastery a temporary abode of the Karmapa.
