Even as the BJP has mellowed its opposition to the Bluestar Memorial within the premises of the Golden Temple in Amritsar,BJP MLA and former minister Manoranjan Kalia said on Monday that a monument should also be built in New Delhi to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in the ‘1984 massacre’.

He also urged Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to set up a memorial similar to Jallianwala Bagh,Amritsar,to commemorate sacrifices made by Punjabis to attain peace and harmony in the state. Kalia, while participating in the budget debate in the Punjab Assembly, said,“After independence, the biggest genocide where thousands lost their lives was the 1984 massacre. Even till today, bereaved families have not got justice. It will be a befitting tribute if a monument is built. Let the Delhi government give land for the purpose and Punjabis will contribute to build it.”
